In May 2009 St Anne's was successful in wining a tender to provide a service for 8 young people with learning disabilities who have physical and sensory impairments. The service is being provided in 2 four bedroomed purpose built bungalows..jpg)
The people who live there now are in what is called “transition” - they are aged between 17 – 25 years and most of them were previously living at home. The service will operate as Supported Living service which receives domiciliary care.
St Anne's managed to introduce this service very quickly indeed as the contract was only awarded in May. A new staff team were recruited and inducted within a vert short timescale with only 3 weeks to go before the first people moved into the service in September 2009.
This service is part of the wider PFI/ILP project to transform the hostels for people with learning disabilities in Leeds. It forms a part of a number of new initiatives in Leeds with a new housing association and a maintenance company which has been formed to service the project, worth a total of £60m, across the city.
Winning the contract was an achievement for St Anne's in the face of stiff competition from many national providers. We feel that being invited to establish this new service firmly cements St Anne's role as a valued provider in the Leeds area. .jpg)
The service is a large and complex one. There will be approximately 25 – 28 staff eventually based in this scheme to support people who have very high support and care needs.
Some of the staff are pictured outside the homes.
