Supported living services in Tyne and Wear

St. Anne's currently provides supported living services in :

  • South Tyneside
  • North Tyneside
  • Newcastle
  • Sunderland

Under the supported living model, the support element of the service is separate from the provision of accommodation. In these cases, St. Anne's provides the staff support to people living in tenancies agreed with other housing providers. This model of support allows clients to change their support provider without having to move from their home. (View leaflet)

Here are just a few examples of what the supported living service in Tyne and Wear has achieved.

Peter's story

Peter receives 20 hours support each week, having previously lived in residential care. Peter has had tenancies in the past, but these have broken down due to insufficient support. Peter is enjoying the freedom of having his own place, but also values the security of having regular contact with support staff. He is managing to maintain his tenancy and to budget his money, and he is particularly pleased that he is able to keep a dog in his new home.

Sarah and John

Sarah and John moved from a residential care home to a shared flat four years ago. A combination of supported living and home help support enables Sarah and John to maintain their flat. They keep to a healthy diet, budget well, attend separate college courses and enjoy a range of social activities.

Social Clubbing

Several people who receive support from St. Anne’s Community Services in North Tyneside have set up a Social Club where they can meet regularly with friends. They can enjoy a wide variety of social activities together. The members of the club meet once a fortnight to plan the activities they would like to do, and then they go ahead and have fun. Activities so far have included they crazy golf, bowling, going to a night club and out for meals.

Laura's life skills

Laura is a service user living in a supported living house in North Tyneside. She receives 24 hour care and support from St. Anne’s Community Services. Laura completed a Life Skills course at North Tyneside College in July 2008 and hopes to take up a volunteer placement at an old people’s home. Laura is very successfully building up her CV and has already completed an Emergency Aid course with support staff working in the North East. Congratulations Laura!
