Jack Curry at Alan Gray Court in Newton Aycliffe County Durham was nominated for Employee of the Month by his Manager Helen Davison.

In her nomination Helen stated that “Jack started working for St Anne’s Community services in January last year.. Jack had no previous care experience. Jack settled in his role very quickly and built good repour with clients, staff, families and external professionals.

Jack has showing a lot of dedication to his job role and has been very pro – active since starting in his role, by ensuring all clients participate in a wide variety of activities and their needs met to a high standard. In December 2017 Jack offered to work Christmas morning at the service and planned to cook a Christmas lunch for all the clients at the service, and not just cooking for the client he was supporting that day but to ensure that all clients had an enjoyable day and meal. Jack on his day off on Christmas Eve rang the service to ensure the meat was defrosting and to see if they were any extra things needed for Christmas day. Jack came in on Christmas Morning earlier than his shift was due to start to ensure the turkey was in the oven and to start preparing the meal.

Jack has always showed lots of flexibility around his role and will always help the service to cover shifts, and will work across any of the bungalows supporting clients. This was also acknowledged in September 2017 when a client went into hospital suffering an injury, and Jack went above and beyond his role and went to hospital with the client and stayed throughout the night at the hospital with the client and their family. Jack dedicated himself this night to the client and the service and worked a whole day and nightshift to offer his support off his own accord at this difficult time.

Having no experience of care, Jack had to complete the care certificate which he did in the time frame given to a high standard. Jack has completed all training required of him. Jack wished to develop his career and further his knowledge and enjoyed the PBS training that much he applied for a PBS instructor role. Jack volunteered to do Moving and Handling train the trainer course so he can deliver this training in service to his colleagues, and is booked to attend this course in April 2018. Through discussions with Jack he expressed he would like to do his NVQ 3 Health and Social care. Jack was enrolled on this course in 2017 and is currently undergoing the work to achieve this qualification.

Jack has achieved a lot of experience and knowledge over the last 14 months, and I feel his hard work, dedication and commitment to the service, colleagues and clients’ has made a very positive difference”.

It was very positive to hear about Jacks impact in such a short period of time and his enthusiasm and commitment to his work as well as the positive impact he has made to the service made him a very worthy winner of Employee of the Month!.
