Karan Squires a Support Worker at Rockhaven our specialist Nursing home for People with Learning Disabilities in Leeds was nominated by her Manager Sue Speight for always going the extra mile.
In her nomination Sue explained that Karan works hard at the service to support clients in a person centred way as well as demonstrating dignity and respect, quality and a caring approach. She described how she works with her colleagues, seeks other staff and client’s opinion when decorating communal areas to ensure the environment is presented nicely for clients to reside. Karan has supported clients to choose their own decoration demonstrating a person centred and respectful approach and supports clients to make independent choices. Where this has not been possible Karan has liaised with relatives and others to ensure clients preferences (which may have been observed non-verbally) are represented; and supports client inclusion as much as possible.
Karan has decorated numerous rooms within the service to a very high standard which is in her managers opinion is going the extra mile and completing tasks which are over and above the expected tasks and duties, to ensure the clients home is as homely and inviting as possible. Relatives have thanked Karan for her hard work and both Karan’s colleagues and others visiting the service have admired the result and how the service is so beautiful inside.
Karan has worked at St Anne’s for 25 years and most of this time at Rockhaven. Karan has made a significant positive impact in the way she has championed the rights of the Clients and provided the very highest of care. I worked with Karen over 20 years ago and her commitment and care and values are truly remarkable and she remains as committed as ever. It was for this reason that Karan was a very worthy winner of employee of the month and I was pleased to surprise her with her award on duty recently!
