Fox View are awarded GSF Accreditation

On the 27th of March the team at 3 Fox View Respite Centre received their certificate and plaque to officially recognise their Gold Standard Framework accreditation.

Fox View GSF Award with Helen and Peter

This was an achievement for the whole team as we became the first learning disabilities respite service to achieve this accreditation. This is recognised as a sign of high quality, holistic approaches to care and is a huge achievement which our entire staff team have worked towards.

The GSF Accreditation scheme centres on approaches to advanced care planning and palliative care. Our status as a respite service meant that we had to approach these issues in different ways, often looking many years in the future, and involve families and carers in the discussion. Although we may not be preparing for or anticipating immediate need for palliative care we have used the principles of GSF to inform the core framework we build our approaches to client care on. These include:

  • Effective communication with clients, carers, and other professionals (including offering advance care planning)
  • Co-ordinating care through lead roles of named nurses and keyworkers for individual guests and GSF lead coordinator for the centre
  • Control of symptoms through effective pain assessment and management using a variety of tools designed for use with people with a learning disability
  • Continuity of care through liaison with other professionals and hand over forms for use when hospitalised to aid in effective care provision and reduced unnecessary hospitalisation
  • Continued professional learning and development through ongoing education and reflective practice
  • Supporting families and carers to engage in the structuring of care support and consideration of advanced care planning
  • Integrated care pathways to ensure a smooth transition where changing and developing needs are anticipated and support provided in advance

We are extremely proud of this achievement and believe it demonstrates our commitment to high quality, client centred care.

I would like to say a huge “thank you and well done” to Peter Tidball and Helen Toft (GSF co-ordinators).
