This was an achievement for the whole team as we became the first learning disabilities respite service to achieve this accreditation. This is recognised as a sign of high quality, holistic approaches to care and is a huge achievement which our entire staff team have worked towards.
The GSF Accreditation scheme centres on approaches to advanced care planning and palliative care. Our status as a respite service meant that we had to approach these issues in different ways, often looking many years in the future, and involve families and carers in the discussion. Although we may not be preparing for or anticipating immediate need for palliative care we have used the principles of GSF to inform the core framework we build our approaches to client care on.
