Along with her two housemates Francesca and Susannah and support staff Vik and Alison. Tickets were booked, accommodation reserved and plans made for a weekend break.
The Ibis hotel, only five minutes’ walk from the Arena scored highly. Frances said “It was a nice room, with my own shower and a television to watch”, whilst Susannah added that the help yourself breakfast worked well.
Once settled into the hotel, there was an opportunity to explore the city centre, which Susannah described as “All Chrismassy”. After wandering through the Christmas market and on to the Winter Gardens, there was plenty of time for shopping, tea, cake and a bit if culture in the Art Galleries and Museums.
The efficient tram system, although busy, took the group back near the hotel to a cinema/restaurant complex. A lovely meal was enjoyed before the big night out.
For everyone, Disney on Ice was the highlight of the weekend. Frances was mesmerised by the skaters and waved to them as they sped by; Francesca sang along to all the classic Disney hits from “The Little mermaid”, “The Lion King” and “Frozen”, while Susannah just danced and clapped along the whole evening.
On the last morning, there was an opportunity to visit Meadowhall Shopping Centre for a few treats before heading home to Easingwold, near York. Susannah said, “I had a really good time and I would like to go again with my staff !!”
For the staff, the weekend was a success despite initial concerns over the change in routine and surroundings for the clients. Even though no one had any previous knowledge of Sheffield, following an initial struggle to get our bearings in the City, all three clients coped extremely well. Although tired by the end of the weekend, it was very memorable because of the delight and enjoyment experienced by Frances, Francesca and Susannah.
