Gateshead & South Tyneside Services

Gateshead and South Tyneside Services attended the National Learning Disability Week ‘Employment’ event on Wednesday 21 June 2017.

Gateshead and South Tyneside services along with clients attended the Learning Disabilities Day organised by Northumbria University on 21 June 2017

The event was include employees with a learning disability sharing stories about their experiences in paid work; stories from employers and a new series of accessible guides for people with a learning disability about finding work.

It was a very good event with two presentations; one from two final year Learning Disabilities Nursing Student (Learning Disabilities with employment ). The second presentation was from the employment and integration officer from Percy Hedley, presenting opportunity for free training e.g. employment training for employers specially tailored towards people with LD.

The team also had a contact with a specialists nurse who is part of the community team for integrating deaf people into main steam employment or community.
