Cloughside Nursing Service

Cloughside is situated in the village of Walsden on the outskirts of Todmorden. The service provides support for people with a learning disability and challenging behaviour.

As a registered nursing home, Cloughside have around the clock qualified RNLD nurse cover and are intensively staffed to meet the diverse needs of clients.

Cloughside is a large, converted home which accommodates 7 people. The home includes a large kitchen, dining and living areas which are all fully accessible. The home has two people carriers which allow clients to access the wider community, whilst excellent local public transport links also facilitate community participation and presence.

Each client is allocated a qualified “named nurse” who is responsible for assessment of their needs. This assessment considers general needs and specific support around behaviours. Planning and implementation of support is carried out through person centred approaches. The effectiveness of agreed strategies and protocols is continually evaluated through multi and inter agency working with other colleagues, professionals and families.

Strategies for managing behaviour are developed and undertaken with reference to the Lavigna-Willis “Multi-Element Model”, which advocates a holistic approach to understanding the needs of an individual who displays behaviour that may challenge. By initiating “behaviour supports”, behaviour is managed 80% pro-actively by, e.g. adaptations to the environment, skills teaching and focussed support.

Any identified health needs resulting from the ageing process or physical illness are respected and considered on an individualised basis.
