Service Description

The Brambles is situated in a village called Dodworth not far from Barnsley Town Centre.

The home provides respite for adults with a learning disability and/or physical disability.

There are 5 bedrooms, 1 with en-suite facilities, 4 with shared bathrooms. The building is purpose built on one level, which ensures we accommodate for wheelchair users in every part of the building.

We also offer a small Snozelm facility adjacent to the lounge.

Guests are able to access day services where arrangements are in place and whilst at The Brambles, transport is available to help get you there.

Aims and Objectives of the Service

The Brambles aims to provide nursing care and support to guests accessing the short stay break service. This enables them to be as independent as possible whilst also providing appropriately trained and skilled staff .

The Brambles endeavours to offer a warm, welcoming atmosphere and will where possible provide each individual with as much like for like home service as possible.

What does the Service offer?

The Brambles promotes:

  • Dignity, Independence, Choice and Inclusion for all.
  • Person Centred approaches.
  • Assessments of individuals’ needs are continually evaluated to ensure the effectiveness of agreed approaches whilst accessing the service.

The Brambles are working towards a framework for supporting guests at end of life. This framework will enable staff to plan and provide the best possible care to individuals towards the end of their lives.

The Brambles have also signed up to additional Quality Improvement Framework and End of Life programmes. The Brambles are following CQC guidelines for Infection control and CQC standards. The Brambles also have Dementia, Infection Control, Dignity, Intensive Interaction and Autism Champions.

The Brambles offer various options to gain feedback from all who access, or have connections with, the service. Feedback has been that The Brambles has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and endeavours to offer a home from home service. The staff team are striving towards intensive interaction with all the people who access the service where verbal communications isn't used.

Once an individual has accessed the service, the team provide a summary of the individuals stay which includes what they have done during their stay.

The Brambles provides a newsletter with various information included and this is circulated 3 times through out the year.

The Brambles offers themed fundraising events throughout the year, which all are encouraged to contribute and participate in. All money raised goes back into The Brambles so each guest benefits from items purchased.

The Brambles also offers coffee mornings and parent and carer meetings regularly throughout the year. These are located at different areas throughout Barnsley to allow easier access for guests and families to attend.

During a stay at The Brambles, staff are able to offer a wide range of activities including cooking, arts and crafts, sensory sessions and themed events to name but a few. The home also has access to a computer and telephones should guests wish to use them. The staff will also support guests to enjoy social activities out in the community and have use of a mini bus to enable guests to do so (small charge payable).

Who should be referred to this service?

Any one who lives within South Yorkshire and has a learning and/or physical disability and/or complex health need.

Who can refer?

BMBC, or equivalent to the Local Authority.
