Volunteers

Role of a Volunteer

Overall, volunteers support clients to develop the skills necessary to undertake a meaningful and active role in the community. Activities are aimed at reducing isolation, building confidence and self-esteem, promoting choice, independence,opportunity, and inclusion.

Geographical Areas and the type of role required.

NORTH AND SOUTH TYNESIDE

Learning Disability Service

Roles required:

Administration, gardening, one to one cooking lessons, social club activities, swimming, arts/crafts, dancing/singing, activities co-ordinator support to social activities, theatre and befriending.

Times required:

Flexible hours but some evening support is required.

NORTH YORKSHIRE

Learning Disability Service

Roles required: (please note it may be a requirement to take clients out in wheelchairs)

Accompanying to swimming lessons, helping clients in the garden, social activities, cooking, interest in sports, arts/crafts, driver and knowledge of local area.

Times required:

Flexible to suit, but some evening and weekend support is required.

LEEDS BASED SERVICES

Learning Disability Services

Roles required:

Cinema, music, shopping, visiting places of interest, faith or cultural events, social activities, supporting clients to volunteer, sports/recreation, cooking/baking, exercise, alternative therapies, horse riding, swimming, supporting clients with daily living skills (shopping, cleaning, cooking).

TImes required:

Flexible to suit, but some evenings and weekends support required.

Mental Health Services

Roles required:

Playing pool, cooking/baking, interest in sports, swimming, social activities, cinema.

Times required:

Weekdays.

Alcohol Services

Roles required:

Administration duties, answering the phone, general enquires, music, art, drama skills, help with group sessions.

Time required:

Weekdays daytime and evenings.

KIRKLEES AND CALDERDALE SERVICES

Learning Disability Services

Roles required:

Swimming, sports, cooking/baking, communication skills with clients with verbal/non verbal clients, walking, keeping fit, social activities, befriending, photography skills, hydrotherapy, beauty/pamper sessions, sign language (useful for not essential), meals out, visits to relatives, in house activities.

TImes required;

Weekdays, evenings and weekends.

Mental Health Services

Roles required:

Befriending, shopping, cafes, swimming, sports, cooking/baking, social activities, support clients with attending forums etc.

Times required:

Flexible to suit.

What we offer Volunteers

Volunteering can be a very rewarding experience on a personal level.It can also offer:

  • Access to initial and ongoing training.
  • An opportunity to meet new people and learn new skills.
  • Enhanced job opportunities.

Volunteers are valued members of our services and,are offered ongoing support and regular supervision. Volunteering opportunities exist across the range of St Anne’s services and are frequently changing to meet the needs of new projects.

North Kirklees

Volunteers are also needed to support the North Kirklees Befriending Scheme. This is a dedicated mental health service, we seek volunteers from the BME community to enable the service to be as responsive as possible to meet the needs of the wider community. Please note - applications may be made at any time for this scheme by e mailing info@st-annes.org.uk and requesting an application form.

Becoming a Volunteer

You will be expected to complete an application form and provide two references, a CRB and Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) check will also be undertaken. Applications from people with a criminal record will be considered on their merits into account their role requirements and the offence committed. Volunteer co-ordinators oversee the application process and induction into St Anne's, once volunteers are placed regular supervisions, on-going support will be provided by the Manager of the service. Volunteers will have access to our in-house training opportunities.
