The Award is made up of 4 units:
- Understand the process and experience of dementia.
- Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person centred approach.
- Understand the role of communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia.
- Understand the diversity of individuals with dementia and the importance of inclusion.
The Award is worth 11 credits on the Qualifications and Credit Framework. All four units of the Award also form part of the Diploma in Health and Social Care.
Underpinning knowledge for the award is delivered through two full-day training days. A third day can be provided to give support to learners with the completion of assignments.
Assessment is through the completion of a written assignment for each module. Candidates will also need to write a project OR give a presentation. A timescale of two months after training is usually set for the completion and submission of assignments.
