Breakaway training is offered as a 1 or 2 day course around Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). Candidates will look at behaviour analysis, planning, de-escalation and avoidance techniques, and breakaways
Breakaway training one day course will include Positive Behaviour Support strategies including primary (planning), secondary (de-escalation), responsive and recovery. It also looks at the law and best practice around the use of breakaways and physical interventions as a last resort.
Breakaways are directed at a person’s safe movement or moving away from danger and being able to defend attacks such as slaps and punches, kicks, grabs etc.
Day 2 of breakaway training will cover more high impact or violent behaviours like hair pulls, bites, and strangles
These courses will be tailored to meet the needs of individual services.
Participants will be able to apply reasonable and justifiable break away techniques in the workplace. This course is BILD ACT certificated as complying with the Restraint Reduction Network Standards 2019.
In a typical session participants will have the opportunity to watch and have explained to them breakaway and/or physical intervention techniques designed to minimise the impact of a physical assault.
A full health and safety briefing will be given to all participants.
