Joanne Cassidy a Support worker in our South Tyneside services was nominated by her Manager Claire Edmed.In her nomination Claire described her reasons for nominating Joanne:
“Joanne demonstrates outstanding person-centred approaches that have empowered Clients to not only gain huge achievements in relation to accessing new social activities such as “Luv 2 meet U “ where Clients have now become members of this newly formed group that has raised their confidence to meet others to form new friendships and help them with their social inclusion which has been previously limited.
Joanne has also taken the lead with advocating for two Clients whom have been acquaintances for many years but not gone on dates together. She spent many hours planning dates weekly and for special occasions such as birthdays and valentine’s day. This year they went on their very first formal date where Joanne escorted both to experience their first valentines meal out at their chosen location where they dined independently with Joanne being there visibly but discreetly at a distance should they need her support. This was a fabulous evening for them both and they have now planned with the support of Joanne to go on a holiday together which has been a long time wish for them both. The Clients have said…..“dreams can come true with little help”.
Joanne is such an inspiration to the team and Clients and goes above and beyond her role at all times to support each individual to reach their full potential and not let their disability limit them from taking part in activities that they thought they may never achieve.
Her enthusiasm and eagerness to empower others never ceases to amaze the team Clients and their families. She is at all times proactive in her practices to ensure all Clients are treated with equality that makes such a difference to all those she cares for. Most of the Clients and families seek her out to support them and help them organise, plan and take the lead on health appointments, holidays, house moves due to her empathic approach. Joanne always strives to make service delivery a high standard at all times and demonstrates that St Anne’s ethos, mission statement and reputation.
Joanne has recently gained her Diploma level 3 and she now looks to further develop herself through further learning & development that can continue her progression which will have more positive impact on South Tyneside services”.
It was amazing to hear all about the work Joanne has been doing to help People with Learning Disabilities form meaningful and lasting emotional relationships as well as her commitment to making a difference every day in our South Tyneside services and for this reason she was a worthy winner of Employee of the Month.
