Liz Knight and colleagues at RAISE supported 4 clients to host a special event to raise awareness about what we mean when we say ‘mental health’ and how it affects all of us differently. Clients had important conversations about their own wellbeing and found out about specialist services in Leeds for extra support. One client, a former soldier who was now homeless was referred to SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity as a result of attending the session. Another client was referred to Yorkshire MESMAC for bereavement counselling, following the sudden death of his male partner.
Other clients said that it was a ‘really well organised event’ and that they felt happier than when they arrived that morning.
Eleanor Broadbent, the Equality and Diversity Officer said
“Its brilliant to see our clients leading their own events to share their lived experience and talk openly about mental health. I’m so proud that RAISE took time out of their schedule to host this special event during Mental Health Awareness Week – they are a credit to St Anne’s and lead by example in supporting the inclusion agenda by challenging assumptions and stereotypes at every opportunity”
