St Anne’s Calderdale Dignity Group has been running successfully for a number of years with a growing group of people who use our services taking part in events and parties which they help organise.
We have recently developed a separate group to help promote health for people with learning disabilities using St Anne’s Calderdale services, with an emphasis on clients themselves being included and directly involved in their own health and well-being, and having the information to make healthy choices.
The group had its first meeting recently and we are planning a number of events including sessions on fun ways to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, a dietician will be giving helpful information including blended options for people with swallowing difficulties – there will be taster sessions to help everyone get involved.
We also have students from Leeds Beckett University who will lead sessions in chair exercises, and we are planning to meet up at a local park for some fresh air to help beat the winter blues with our friends from Love 2 Meet U. Other ideas include oral care and eye care, with input from the local dental practice and opticians…
