John retired in 2023 having spent over 30 years working as a solicitor advising on financial transactions. Towards the end of that time, John became Global Managing Partner of Pinsent Masons, the international law firm where he spent most of his career. During his career, John developed a particular interest in promoting good mental health.

In his retirement John has become the Chair of the Independent Monitoring Board for HMP Leeds, he also enjoys playing competitive chess, spending time with family, and is a novice beekeeper.

John was elected to the board in 2024.
